A youth pastor friend called to tell me that his Lutheran seminary educated pastor believes everyone is saved and going to heaven. I heard this before when I studied at a Methodist undergrad school. His youth want to continue with Inductive Bible studies, the pastor has apparently been reading extreme later disciples of neo-orthodox patriarchs. [...]
John Maxwell states that the teacher is responsible “to” his listeners and not “for” his listeners. Likewise, each of us are responsible to apply the Bible however the Holy Spirit guides us.
Teachers are responsible “to” and “not” for their students. I am responsible for my application and you are responsible for yours.

According to one education scholar, children [between the ages of 2 and 5 years old] learn 25 times as fast as adults. That is the time when kids are always pulling on their mother’s apron strings and asking “Why mom, but why?” The question “Why?” bridges the observation and and interpretation processes. [...]

Harold Ockenga stunned me during one of his sermons while I was a student at

A lady asked Charles Spurgeon how many times he had been through the Bible. His classic “Spurgeon” response was “ma’am the issue is not how many times I have been through the Bible. The question is how many times has the Bible been through me.”
The point of Inductive Bible Study is that the Bible will [...]

Interpretation re-creates the original circumstance, atmosphere, setting and life of a Bible passage. Interpretation takes the raw facts from observation and attempts to re-create the original event or statement. This re-creation allows us to better understand the Bible.
The question is: “OK, how do I begin to re-create?”
The answer is to ask as many “Why?” questions [...]

“His socks don’t match.” My photographer friend exclaimed to me as we were briskly thumbing through the airline magazine. The auto ad showed a tall basketball player trying to get into a small car and his socks did not match. I did not see it, but my friend saw it immediately. He trained his eye [...]
