Paul told the Corinthians that they were a letter written from God.Â This isÂ really a picture of application isn’t it.Â We are the only Scriptures that some people will ever read.Â Whether we obey or disobey–this underlines the importance of application.Â “Be doers of the Word and not hearers only deceiving ourselves.”

Application, Bible Teachers and Responsibility

John Maxwell states that the teacher is responsible “to” his listeners and not “for” his listeners.Â Likewise, each of us are responsible to apply the Bible however the Holy Spirit guides us.

Teachers are responsible “to” and “not” for their students.Â I am responsible for my application and you are responsible for yours.

A lady asked Charles Spurgeon how many times he had been through the Bible.Â His classic “Spurgeon” response was “ma’am the issue is not how many times I have been through the Bible.Â The question is how many times has the Bible been through me.”

The point of Inductive Bible Study is that the Bible will work its way “through us” and that we will actually do, think and act as it says we should. “Application” is the final step of Inductive study after observing and interpreting a text.
